Icelandic composer Stefán Hafsteinsson’s debut EP Heima presents four beautifully realized pieces for piano, strings and tasteful electronics that are at once melancholic and uplifting.

On the record's lead single Ótta, Hafsteinsson paints a motionless landscape frozen in time and marked by solitude. Sparse notes on the piano unearth a buried, abandoned past seeking to be reconciled from an inevitable absence.

On the colourful and uplifting track Haltu, he deftly pairs the playful rhythmic patterns of his piano with the affirmations of a melodic string section and warm electronics.

The pieces on ‘Heima’ demonstrate a deft of craft and an ear for heart wrenching melody. Hafsteinsson enters the scene with the promise of great things ahead.
